PROGRAM INFO: This program computes perigee distances, dates and times for all the major planets and Pluto within the 600-year period from 1600 to 2200. Based on the NASA/JPL Ephemeris Model and The NASA polynomial expressions for Delta T. A planetary perigee is that point where a given planet makes its closest approach to Earth. The inner planet Mercury will have 3 or 4 perigees per year while Venus may possibly have 2 perigees and Mars has a perigee every other year or so. The slow, lethargic outer planets, from Jupiter outward, have a perigee every year. The local time zone determines the local date and time of the perigee, so the same perigee can happen on different dates in different parts of the world. TIME SYMBOLS USED: UT = Universal Time = UT+00:00 = UT1 = GMT TZ = Local Time Zone Offset From UT (Neg/Pos = West/East) LT = Local Time in Given Time Zone. DT = Delta T computed from NASA polynomial expressions. TT = Terrestrial Time Used For Internal Computations. TIME SCALE RELATIONSHIPS: UT = LT − (TZ) LT = UT + (TZ) TT = UT + (DT) or TT = LT − (TZ) + (DT)
