Hello, World:

My name is Jay Tanner and I administer the NeoProgrammics web site.

This web site was officially born on Wednesday, November 1st, 2000 and has
been on-line ever since.

I currently reside in central New York State in the U.S.A. in a small town
called Geneva in the Finger Lakes Region at the north end of Seneca Lake.
I lived in another small town nearby called Waterloo, the birth-place of
Memorial Day, prior to moving here in late November of 2025.

I am a retired 78-year-old U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era.

1970 to 1975:
Took basic training at Fort Dix, NJ (E-52) and then started medical
training at Fort Sam Houston, TX to become a field medic (MOS 91B20).

Subsequently stationed at Schofield Barracks on Oahu, Hawaii, during
which time the Vietnam conflict ended and I avoided being deployed
to Vietnam.  I was in the Tropic Lightning division.

Later, I returned state-side and became a medical laboratory specialist
(MOS 92B20) until the end of my service with an honorable discharge.

1975 to 1996:
Joined MENSA on Wednesday, Sep 14th, 1988 (Member # 1119845).

Worked at the V.A. Hospital (now called the V.A. Medical Center) in the
city of Syracuse, NY, until my retirement in the late 1990s.

POST RETIREMENT ACTIVITY

My heart was never fully into the medical profession, so after retire-
ment, I spent most of my free time developing scientific programs in
a variety of programming languages.

I still hold the highest respect for medical professionals, having worked
with them for decades and fully understand the challenges they face each
day from my own experiences in the field. But - I needed a break.

My primary interests have always focused on science, primarily physics,
astronomy, mathematics and computer programming.

Today, I'm running this non-commercial web site to freely share whatever
scientific and programming knowledge I've accumulated over the years with
anyone who has similar interests and finds my site useful.

Over the last 50+ years, even prior to my military service, I've programmed
in multiple programming languages, including:

APL - The first programming language I ever used.

BASIC - [B]eginner's [A]ll-purpose [S]ymbolic [I]nstruction [C]ode.
        The original Dartmouth BASIC.

CBASIC - For Microsoft Windows DOS.
Turbo BASIC / PowerBASIC - BASIC language compilers.
Microsoft Visual BASIC - v3 to v6.
C++ / CPP
FORTRAN
FORTH - A Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) programming language.
Java
Java Script
Python
PHP - My language of choice for sharing my work on the Internet.
      It is easy to learn and extremely powerful once you learn
      how to use it.

Having been on the Internet for over 2½ decades, I've been
quite active but, otherwise, keeping a low profile on the web.
