Lunar Phase Series Generator v8

This POV-Ray program script generates a series of lunar phase images at
1-degree intervals given starting and ending phase angle.

There were 7 earlier versions that were never released because the isosurface
and height field were not yet ready. This version 8 is the final version with
the bugs fixed.

For the entire series of phases at 1-degree intervals, simply set the subset
start and end values to 0 and 360 respectively.

The program uses a spherical isosurface with a height field for a real 3D
surface and, depending on your computer system architecture and the sizes
of the rendered images, generating the series can take a long time and takes
patience.

This POV-Ray script was used to generate all of the lunar hemispheric phase
images used on this web site:

USAGE

In POV-Ray, load the file:
Lunar-Phase-Series-Generator-v8.ini

Then edit the INI file to set the rendering variables
such as the size of the frames and length of the series.

You do not need to load the file:
Lunar-Phase-Series-Generator-v8.pov

unless you wish to edit it.

----------------------------------------------------------
Set the (4x3) dimensions you want for the rendered images.

  Width  = 512
  Height = 384

----------------------------------------------
Set the range of phase angle images to render.

  Subset_Start_Frame = 0
  Subset_End_Frame   = 360

-----------------------------------------------
You may have to adjust some of the illumination
settings in the main file:
Lunar-Phase-Series-Generator-v8.pov

if the rendering is too dark or light.

-----------------------------------
Run the script from the INI file to
generate the series of lunar phases.
